Marino’s 2018 Highlights

The end of the year always brings a time for reflection and here at Marino we’re no different. 2018 brought new faces, new clients, new rewards, lots of great times and ends with a sense of excitement as to what 2019 might bring. Here are some of our highlights.

Marino’s 2018 Highlights

Awards

One of our greatest achievements this year was our performances at award ceremonies, claiming a winners spot at the prestigious Deloitte Technology Fast 50 Awards, being shortlisted for the ‘Best in User Experience & Design’ at the Spider Awards and bringing home a first prize at the Irish Content Marketing Awards for last 2017’s “Marino Brew” Christmas Campaign.

It’s brilliant to have our work recognised by the industry and justifies our honest, no-nonsense approach to software design and our focus on delivering the optimal solution to meet our client’s needs and of their end users. We’re already looking forward to what we can bring to the table at next year’s awards!

Vero

Marino have been developing Vero’s android app for a few years now but even we were taken aback by it’s amazing increase in popularity back in February! The social media platform grew from a few thousand users to over a million in a few weeks and with increased numbers, we faced new challenges in performance and support. We’re really proud of how the Vero Team pulled together to manage this unprecedented growth and also how our own Marino team managed it too. We’ll be ready for whatever 2019 brings.

Eishtec Marino Labs

Just this month, we had our first workshop with Eishtec, a customer services company headquartered in Waterford, to mark the beginning of a collaboration between the two companies to create an innovation lab. The lab will explore and shape the future of customer experience through combining the best technology, such as chatbots and voice assistants, with the human touch.

Marino Hackathon

We held our first internal Hackathon in July and it was a great success. Members of our development, management and QA teams, gathered together in our Dublin HQ to create and prototype a time tracking device to talk to our time tracking system, Zoho, in only 26 hours. The inaugural winner was ‘The Cube’ which when rotated, would track a different project in Zoho, with each project being represented by a series of different LED’s. We’d like to say this gave the team a bit more enthusiasm for completing our regular timesheets but we’re still waiting...

New Staff

A number of new faces joined the Marino team this year, with additions to our Marketing, Sales, Android and Project Management teams. Our culture is important to us in Marino. We see it as one of our core strengths, so it’s great when we find new people who slot right in and feel like they’ve been here for years.

Other Achievements

As well Marino’s first Hackathon, we ticked a few other items off our target lists:

Conferences

A chance to travel somewhere different and a day out of the office or an opportunity to keep up to date with the latest development, design, QA and PM trends and technologies? Why not both?! This year we attended conferences in the United States (a few times!), France, The Netherlands, Italy, Denmark, Wales, London and of course Dublin.

Marino Team

But it’s not all work. We’ve had some fun along the way too...

Which was topped off by a great Christmas Party last week!

2019

Every new year brings new opportunities and Marino will be bringing you some exciting ones next year! Until then, we wish you and yours a happy and peaceful Christmas and a prosperous new year.
